After eight years with no base, the Greek Library of London has a home at 2-4 Camden High Street, with over 7,000 books and a first talk listed for 24 October.
The Greek Library of London has its first permanent home, on the third floor of 2-4 Camden High Street, at the Mornington Crescent end of the street.
The charity was founded in 2017 and has had no premises of its own until now. Its website now gives the Camden address as the library, and its autumn talks and book club are all listed there (Greek Library of London).
It announced the move to members on 4 June. After “eight years of continuous effort”, it wrote, the library was getting its own space “in the heart of London, in Camden” (Greek Library of London, 4 June 2026). The announcement is in Greek; the translation is ours.
The library in numbers
The charity’s fundraising page gives these figures:
- more than 480 members
- more than 7,000 books in the collection
- more than 10,000 loans
- more than 3,500 places taken at its events and activities
It also runs a Greek children’s library, with books for children and teenagers.
An appeal to fit out the new space
The library is raising money to set up the Camden rooms. On 13 October its appeal stood at £5,004.34 from 80 donations, against a goal of £8,000 (Donorbox appeal).
The charity says donations will pay for:
- fitting out and equipping the space
- moving the collection in
- basic computer and office equipment
- education and cultural programmes
- day-to-day running costs
It has no permanent public funding, the appeal says, and relies on members, friends and donors. It is a registered charity, number 1179392.
What is on at the new address
The first three events listed at 2-4 Camden High Street are:
| Date | Event | Tickets |
|---|---|---|
| Saturday 24 October, 4pm | From the stage to the short story: writer Leonidas Vourdonikolas, with the Greek committee of the EURODRAM theatre network | £4 members, £8 others |
| Sunday 8 November, 2pm to 4pm | Book club: To Paidi (The Child) by Giannis Palavos | Book a place with the library |
| Thursday 12 November, 7pm | Avra Sidiropoulou, professor of theatre studies at the Open University of Cyprus, on stage practice in the 21st century | £4 members, £8 others |
Tickets for the two talks are sold through Eventbrite. The library’s own calendar shows the first talk on 25 October, but the event page and Eventbrite both give Saturday 24 October, and we have used that date. All three events are listed in Greek.
What it means for you
If you read Greek, or are learning it, there is now a lending library on Camden High Street. Members can choose books in person or collect books they have reserved, the library says. Its postal lending service across the UK is not running at the moment.
If you want to join or help, membership and contact details are on greeklibrary.org, and the adult library answers at info@greeklibrary.org. The appeal is still open.
Getting there: Mornington Crescent station is at the same end of Camden High Street. Our tube times and fares page has the times from every Camden station, and what’s on in Camden this month has more for the weeks ahead.
